The colorless Solid Potassium Hydroxide is a prototypical strong base, is along with Sodium Hydroxide. It is available in both pellet and powder form. The purified material is a white solid liquify that is commercially available in the form of pellets and flakes.
Potassium hydroxide is an inorganic
compound with the formula KOH, and is commonly called caustic potash.
It is a strong base that is in several forms as pellets, flakes and
powders. It is used in various chemical, industrial and manufacturing
applications.
Use of Potassium Hydroxide:
Potassium Hydroxide is used in the
cosmetic and skin care industry as a bufferer in a wide different
formulas which include bath products, cleansing products, fragrances,
foot powders, hair dyes and colors, makeup, nail products, shampoos,
shaving products, depilatories, skin care product. It has a unique
ability to attract water molecules from its environment and
ultimately dissolve in water that it had originally absorbed,
balancing the formula without creating excess weight or changing the
composition.
Product of Solid Potassium
Hydroxide:
- Solid Potassium Hydroxide is used in bio-diesel product as catalyst of the triglycerides in vegetable oil.
- Glycerin from potassium hydroxide-processed biodiesel is useful as an inexpensive food supplement for livestock, once the toxic methanol is removed.
- The KOH used potassium soap is more softer than sodium hydroxide-derived soap, because of their softness and greater solubility, potassium soaps require less water to liquefy, so this contain more cleaning agent than liquefied sodium soaps.
- Solid KOH is also used in manufacturing of optical and crystal glass, photographic compounds, latex rubber and dyes.
- The KOH solution is better electricity conductor than sodium hydroxide solution and therefore it is preferred more.
